Are you interested in increasing your leadership skills or searching for the top leadership qualities? I, Coach Danyell, have gathered the top leadership skills and qualities that I feel makes you the best all around leader and manager. My ten years in finance and customer service has allowed me to interact with top executives and hone my leadership skills in the process. The following skills will be your foundation for managing your staff effectively and with ease. Let’s discuss.

Working in corporate finance and customer service, I have encountered high-level executives that assume the role, but do not have true leadership or management qualities. In a corporate world, earning a title does not equate to being a great leader.

Certain individuals possess natural leadership skills, while others may have to work and develop these qualities.

The number one quality for being a great leader is having the ability to lead. Being confident and comfortable in a leadership role makes for a great leader. You need to comfortable leading others and being the face of your team. If you are lacking this skill, then this would be the number skill to begin developing. Natural leaders may automatically assume control and manage in all situations.

The second quality for being an amazing lead is adaptability. As you work to manage your team, you need to understand the team will consist of varied personalities and perspectives. As a leader, be cognizant of flexibility and how you portray yourself to the team. Your team needs to feel that you are flexible to each of their needs or at least attempt.

The third top skill for being a leader is empathy. You need to be able to empathize with your staff in any given situation. Putting yourself in their shoes and listening to their needs will allow you to appear more open and approachable. This is an excellent quality to have with your team. You want your team to feel comfortable reaching out to you with any issue and every situation.

The fourth skill that makes a great leader is reliability. As a manager you may be responsible for approving timecards, coaching, or meetings. Make it a priority to meet your deadlines and duties as a manager. If you begin to slack, your team may suffer the loss and think less of you in your position.

The fifth quality for being a great leader is delegation. When it comes to your staff, you need to understand their different personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Delegating tasks, coaching, and reprimanding will be easier if you know how to effectively delegate and communicate with each member. As humans we perceive situations differently, so you should take into accountability traits known for each person.

The final top quality I recommend for great leadership skills is consistency. Including all the skills above, consistency, helps to glue everything into place. Portraying these skills demands consistency to manage your team. Overall, this will make you a better leader and display your accountability to the team.

A bonus skill that will assist you in being a great leader is communication. If you can manage to provide excellent communication to your team and coworkers, the skills above may be more flexible. It is always a great idea to learn how to communicate appropriately via email, phone, or face to face. As a manager, you may be reaching out to different counterparts, as well as your staff to inform of any communications or correspondence.

Developing the skills above will allow you to be an important asset and resource for your staff. Always continue to stay consistent and knowledgeable providing your team with up-to-date information and this will also make you a great leader.
